Brad William Henke was born on April 10, 1966, in Columbus, Nebraska. He pursued athletics early in life, playing college football at the University of Arizona before being drafted by the New York Giants in 1989. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Denver Broncos, where he played as a defensive lineman and appeared in Super Bowl XXIV. His football career ended in 1994 due to injuries, prompting him to transition into acting.


Henke’s acting career began with small roles in films such as Mr. Wrong and Space Jam, and television appearances on Chicago Hope and Silk Stalkings. Over time, he built an extensive résumé across both film and television. His most recognized role came in 2016 when he joined the cast of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black as corrections officer Desi Piscatella, a character he portrayed for three seasons. His performance contributed to the ensemble’s Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance in a Comedy Series.


Beyond Orange Is the New Black, Henke appeared in numerous television series, including Lost, Dexter, Justified, Sneaky Pete, October Road, and Manhunt. He also starred in the CBS adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand as Tom Cullen. His film credits included Pacific Rim, Draft Day, and Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.


Henke was married to actress Katelin Chesna from 2001 to 2008. In later years, he openly shared his health struggles, including surviving a major arterial blockage and undergoing surgery to remove a tumor. Despite these challenges, he continued to work in film and television, with his final role appearing in the 2022 movie Block Party.


Brad William Henke is remembered as a man of resilience who successfully transitioned from professional sports to a respected acting career. His colleagues and fans admired his generosity, warmth, and dedication to his craft.
