Born on March 21, 1914, in Adamston, West Virginia, Genevieve was the daughter of Italian immigrants Salvatore and Maria Teresa Audia Buttafusco. She was the second of four children and grew up in a close-knit family that valued tradition, faith, and community.

At just 15 years old, Genevieve eloped with her schoolmate Frank Musci, age 16, traveling by cab from Clarksburg to Oakland, Maryland, to be married before a Justice of the Peace. The couple shared 58 years of marriage until Frank’s passing in 1988. Together, they raised two daughters, Marie Fumich and Sheila Harris, and built a life centered on family and faith.

Genevieve was a devout Catholic, attending Mass regularly at Saint James Catholic Church in Clarksburg, WV, and later at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Arlington, VA. She was active in parish life, participating in the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters Club.

She also enjoyed community activities such as bingo at the Harrison County Senior Center and attending the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival.

She delighted in traveling to Italy, maintaining ties with her extended family abroad, and was fluent in Italian. Known for her love of shopping, she cherished fine shoes and handbags and took meticulous care of her belongings.

In her later years, Genevieve became widely recognized as part of the viral duo “Gramma and Ginga”, alongside her younger sister Arlene “Ginga” Bashnett. Their candid, humorous exchanges captured the hearts of millions worldwide, leading to appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Steve Harvey, and coverage in numerous media outlets.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband Frank, her daughters Marie and Sheila, her siblings Louis Buttafusco, Floranda Cordray, and Angeline Telarico. She is survived by her sister Arlene, five grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Her long life was marked by resilience, devotion, and humor. Genevieve Musci will be remembered not only for her role as a loving mother and grandmother but also for the joy she brought to millions through her wit and spirited personality.
