Guy Moon, the Emmy-nominated and Annie Award-winning composer whose infectious scores and themes defined a generation of beloved animated series on Nickelodeon and beyond—including the iconic earworm openings for The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom—has passed away at the age of 63.

Born on February 7, 1962, in Madison, Wisconsin, Moon grew up in Fort Atkinson, where he honed his musical talents early by playing piano in his school's swing choir, tuba in the marching band, and even composing cadences for the group. He earned the John Philip Sousa Band Award in high school and later graduated from the University of Arizona School of Music. Inspired by jazz legends like Chick Corea, as well as cartoon music pioneers Carl Stalling and Raymond Scott, Moon moved to California in 1986 to pursue a career in film and television composition.

His breakthrough came in the late 1980s and 1990s with early credits including the low-budget horror film Creepozoids (1987) and contributions to The Land Before Time (1988). He quickly became a staple in animation, scoring episodes and themes for Cartoon Network shows like Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, as well as Nickelodeon series such as ChalkZone, Back at the Barnyard, Big Time Rush, and the Netflix reboot of Johnny Test.

Moon's most enduring legacy stems from his long-standing collaboration with animator Butch Hartman. He composed the music for every episode of The Fairly OddParents (2001–2017), earning four Daytime Emmy nominations, a 2007 Annie Award for Best Music in an Animated Television Production, and multiple BMI Cable Awards. He also wrote and produced the scores and themes for Danny Phantom (2004–2007) and T.U.F.F. Puppy (2010–2015), along with the three live-action Fairly OddParents movies. His work extended to live-action projects in later years, including films like The Brady Bunch Movie, A Very Brady Sequel, Fight Club, Minority Report, and recent series such as The Green Veil.

Known for his innovative, jazz-infused style that brought energy and character to quick-cut animation, Moon's music—full of memorable songs like "My Shiny Teeth and Me" from The Fairly OddParents—brought joy to millions of young viewers and left an unmistakable mark on children's television. He resided in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles, California, and was survived by his wife and three children, all of whom shared his passion for music.

Moon died on January 8, 2026, from traumatic injuries sustained in a traffic collision in Wilmington, Los Angeles, while riding a scooter; he was struck by a vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Tributes from colleagues, including Butch Hartman who expressed profound heartbreak over the loss of his longtime friend and collaborator, have poured in, celebrating his remarkable talent and the joy his compositions continue to bring.
