Yeison Jiménez, one of Colombia’s most beloved and commercially successful música popular (popular music) singers and songwriters, has tragically passed away at the age of 34.

Born Yeison Jiménez Tamayo on July 26, 1991, in Manzanares, Caldas, Colombia, he grew up in a modest family in the coffee-growing region of Caldas. He began singing at a very young age, performing at local events and parties. His professional career took off in the mid-2010s when he signed with Sony Music Colombia. Jiménez quickly became a major figure in the género popular (popular genre), a style blending romantic ballads, ranchera, and cumbia influences with heartfelt lyrics about love, heartbreak, betrayal, and everyday struggles.

His breakthrough came with the 2015 album El Desmadre, followed by major hits such as “Aventurero,” “El Alumno,” “El Desquite,” “Se Busca,” “La Depre,” “Cuando el Amor Se Va,” and the massive 2021 single “Me Duele.” His powerful voice, emotional delivery, and relatable storytelling resonated deeply with audiences across Colombia and the Colombian diaspora in the United States, Spain, and other countries. By the time of his death, he had released seven studio albums, won multiple awards (including several Premios Nuestra Tierra), and amassed hundreds of millions of streams and views on platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

Known for his humility, generosity, and close connection with fans, Jiménez frequently performed in small towns and rural areas in addition to large arenas. He was also recognized for his philanthropy, supporting children’s causes and community projects in Caldas.

At the time of his death, he resided primarily in Manizales, Caldas, Colombia, though he traveled frequently for performances.

On January 10, 2026, Yeison Jiménez died in a tragic plane crash near the municipality of Tuluá, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The small private aircraft carrying him and several members of his team crashed shortly after takeoff while the group was en route to a concert in the city of Pereira. There were no survivors.

His sudden death at the height of his career sent shockwaves through Colombia’s music industry and among millions of fans. Tributes poured in from fellow artists including Jessi Uribe, Pipe Bueno, Yeison Landero, Paola Jara, and many others, as well as from politicians and everyday Colombians who grew up listening to his music. He is remembered as a voice of the people who sang about real life with passion and sincerity.

Yeison Jiménez is survived by his wife, his children, his parents, and his large extended family. His music continues to echo across Colombia and beyond.
